YouTube announced that it will start rolling out the new 1080p Premium among other new features for YouTube Premium subscribers. Other features include Smart Downloads and being able to watch YouTube with friends for FaceTime users on iOS via SharePlay.
New YouTube Premium Features
The most familiar of these features is the 1080p Premium which the company previously was reported to be testing out. It is said to offer crisper videos, especially those with a lot of detail and motion by having an enhanced bitrate version. The feature is said to benefit viewers who are fans of sports and gaming videos.
The 1080p Premium though will start on iOS and will be experimented on Web soon as well.
Along with the better bitrate, YouTube Premium subscribers will enjoy the ability to watch YouTube videos using FaceTime via SharePlay for iOS users. This is pretty similar to the Meet Live Sharing feature on Android devices, where Premium subscribers can host Google Meet sessions and watch videos with the attendees regardless if they’re Premium or free users.
Other features include:
- Expanding queueing to phones and tablets
- Continuing where you left off as you switch between your Android, iOS, and web devices without interruption
- Smart Downloads – automatically adds recommended videos straight to your library ready for offline viewing while connected to Wi-Fi.
