ChatGPT Went Offline for Almost an Entire Day

The enormous number of users who have grown to rely on cutting-edge AI for aid with writing and coding, as well as support on a range of issues, found it worrisome that ChatGPT had been down for almost an entire day.

The downtime also affected ChatGPT Plus paying users, who were intended to receive priority treatment during busy periods.

The website monitoring tool Downdetector reports that issues started at about one in the morning. PT on Monday, but it subsided after a few hours. By 8 AM, a significantly bigger outage started. It took about 12 hours, or until 7:54 PM, to be fully restored.

However, as the service went back online, there were some issues still occurring. The latest update on OpenAI’s status page for says, “We’ve fully restored ChatGPT service to all users. We’re continuing to work to restore past conversation history to users.”


The company that first made the world aware of AI’s potential appeared to be handling a huge increase in traffic extremely efficiently. Azure, a Microsoft cloud computing service, hosts the back end.

Although this is not the first time ChatGPT has faced issues, this one could be the biggest one thus far.

A lot of people’s attention has been caught by sophisticated AI thanks to its extensive capabilities and continual advancements. Users of ChatGPT-Plus, for instance, now have access to GPT-4, a far more powerful AI model than GPT-3.5. 

The new system accepts input in the form of both graphics and a significantly bigger volume of text.
