Netflix has just unveiled the Ad-supported tier and is now official. This new plan is called basic with ads.
Netflix Basic with Ads plan inclusions
This new plan will give you a video quality of up to 720p/HD with an average of 4 to 5 minutes of ads per hour. At launch, the ads will be 15 to 30 seconds in length each and will play before and during the stream.
However, a number of TV shows and movies will not be available because of licensing issues that Netflix promises to fix. Additionally, you won’t be able to download stuff while on this plan.
This plan will only be available for 12 countries – Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK, and the US. It will be available on November 1 in Canada and November 3 in the US and the UK.
The Basic with Ads plan will be priced at USD 6.99/month and is a way to lower the barrier of entry into Netflix.
