PCI-SIG has just launched the PCI Express 7.0 at the PCI-SIG Developers Conference 2022. This is the successor to the PCIe 6.0 socket which is expected to be used in servers next year.
PCI Express 7.0 will transfer 32GB/s on a single bi-directional connection. It also offers a maximum bandwidth of 512GB/s.
Additionally, it will use PAM4 signaling. This was introduced in PCIe 6.0 but the new signaling will focus on low power efficiency, low latency, and backward compatibility.
Each generation of PCIe offers twice the speed of the last generation, this means that PCIe 7.0 is four times faster than PCIe 5.0. PCIe 5.0, of course, is what is used in AMD’s AM5 and Intel’s LGA1700 sockets.
