A page on Indian online retail shop Flipkart teases the return of Vaio after years of hiatus. Sony sold its Vaio laptop business in 2014 due to poor sales.
The teaser reads “Lighter than your past” followed by “Stay tuned for more” which all but ensures a return from the brand. The first line looks like a play on laptops from the time that Vaio made laptops. Those were times when notebooks were large and ran hot in addition to being pricey.
“In January, the brand will officially unveil her first AMD model together with another model specially design for the modern office and start selling from one of the leading e-commerce portal – Flipkart, then to further extend to other major retail channels,” mentioned Seema Bhatnagar, Regional Business Director for South Asia, RSD, NexstGo.
A new deal with Hong Kong-based company NexstGo granted the company the rights to market, sell, service Vaio laptops in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Macau, Middle East, and India.
