After a few days of teasing, Realme finally and officially announced the Realme 6i! They sent us a unit yesterday along with some items. If you are following us on Facebook, we recently did a live unboxing of this product and quickly gave you our initial thoughts about it.

Realme 6i 12Just in case you missed it, here’s everything inside the box of the Realme 6i:

  • Realme 6i (4GB/128GB)
  • Silicon Case
  • Warranty and Manuals
  • 18W Quick Charger
  • Type C to Type A cable

If you’re a follower or fan of Realme, you’ll definitely agree that everything in the package is somewhat similar with what’s inside the Realme XT and Realme 5 Pro retail boxes. I guess, the lack of earphone is compensated with the freebies Realme usually packages with their products. We don’t know yet what freebies they are going to include, but they will probably tell everyone during their online launch this May 13, 2020.

Anyway, for Realme 6i, I am going to focus on 3 things:

  • Possible Price
  • Gaming
  • Photography Capabilities

These are usually the ones being checked by consumers. Some of the people who also watched our live stream earlier also asked questions that are specific to the points I wish to focus.

POSSIBLE PRICE

Realme 6i 3Value for money is the number one consideration of most Filipinos when it comes to buying a smartphone. We look for an affordable smartphone that can deliver all the things we need on a device.

During our online meeting with Realme, they said that the price will be sub-PhP10K. They didn’t say how much yet, but judging from the previous price of Realme 5i, we’re looking at  around PhP7000 to PhP8500 mark. It could be lower, but if they price it within that range, we could be seeing a potential hit from consumers.

Realme 6i 17Everyone’s prioritizing buying essential items rather than gadgets these days. However, it does not mean that we shouldn’t also consider getting a new smartphone. We have seen how important smartphones are these days, and the availability of a capable smartphone that’s priced below PhP10,000 for consumers is definitely very helpful, even during ECQ.

GAMING

For a device that’s within the budget category, Realme 6i allowed me to play games like Call of Duty Mobile at Low settings and Mobile Legends at HFR, HD Mode and High Graphics. At some point, I almost thought that Mobile Legends is so optimized on this smartphone, it was probably made with that game to be played in mind.

Realme 6i 13Needless to say, there is assurance here that if you’re into MOBA or FPS, the games you play are definitely playable. If you’re expecting your triple AAA games like Fortnite or Black Desert to look really good, then this device is probably not the one you’re looking for. We’ve seen zero to low anti-aliasing on some games, which we really expected on this smartphone.

Of course, we can’t say more for now when it comes to gaming performance. We still have yet to experience this further. We hope to be able to give you more feedback about gaming in our full review pretty soon. Also, we won’t show any benchmarks for now so stay tuned.

Oh, this next one is something related to games – this smartphone does not support 5Ghz WiFi frequency, so if you’re intro streaming, you’re stuck with using the 2.4GHz Wifi frequency on your WiFi router. A lot of devices connect to this frequency at default so interference while playing or streaming might happen using this smartphone.

PHOTOGRAPHY CAPABILITIES

Two of the camera features they teased earlier today are 48MP main rear camera and 16MP front camera. These numbers appear really good on paper but how was it?

Realme 6i 9As usual, it’s too early to say, but we managed to take some photos using the device when we received it, and we can definitely share that the cameras are okay for a sub-PhP10K device. It is definitely better than the previous generation – of course I am speaking of the Realme 5i – and that should give you an idea of how good it is.

Contrast levels are okay and saturation of some of our photos are on point. Blur precision needs a lot of work when using portrait mode (like most budget smartphones), dynamic range is not as good as we wanted and there is no Video Pro Mode.

Here are some sample photos for your reference!

INITIAL VERDICT

It’s good, but I have my reservations until they announce the final price. If the price is within PhP7000 to PhP8500, get this. If it goes beyond PhP8,500, then I might recommend getting the Realme 6 or 6 Pro instead (if they are even bringing those two devices in the Philippines). Until then, we recommend that you stick around for our full review on our website.
