Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2015 is now on! We are live here at the Eclipse Lounge in Solaire Resort and Casino. And we just witnessed the head honchos at Samsung officially unveil not one, but two new flagship devices. You probably already know this by now, but Samsung’s newest main smartphones are none other than the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge.

The Galaxy S6 is, as you may already know, the successor to last year’s Galaxy S5. But instead of simply being another iteration of the same old smartphone, it is said to have been built “front the ground up” in order to offer something better than anything you’ve ever used before.

Does the S6 have what it takes to back that statement up?

Here’s a quick list of the Samsung Galaxy S6’s main features:

  • 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED touchscreen display with 576PPI
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 4
  • 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 lens + 5-megapixel front camera
  • Samsung Exynos 7420 SoC (Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57)
  • Mali T760 GPU
  • 3GB RAM + 32GB/64GB/128GB internal storage
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC, and USB 2.0 with MHL 3 TV-out
  • Heart rate sensor and fingerprint scanner
  • 2,550mAh non-removable battery (built-in wireless charging)
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop (TouchWiz UI)

Samsung made a big deal out of the cameras on the Galaxy S6, and the reason why is because the company believes it has just crafted one of the most efficient cameraphones in existence. But as you can plainly see, judging from that spec sheet we just posted above, it’s bound to be more than just another cameraphone.

Moving on to the S6 Edge, here’s the phone that you would get if you took the Galaxy S6 and gave it two curved edges. The Galaxy S6 Edge design is based on the original Galaxy Edge, only this time, it has “edges” on both the left and the right side, and there are a few new applications of this novel features baked in to come up with a more practical handset.

Here’s a quick list of the Galaxy S6 Edge specs:

  • 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED touchscreen display with 576PPI
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 4
  • 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 lens + 5-megapixel front camera
  • Samsung Exynos 7420 SoC (Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57)
  • Mali T760 GPU
  • 3GB RAM + 32GB/64GB/128GB internal storage
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC, and USB 2.0 with MHL 3 TV-out
  • Heart rate sensor and fingerprint scanner
  • 2,600mAh non-removable battery (built-in wireless charging)
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop (TouchWiz UI)

If you notice, we just took the specs of the Galaxy S6 and copy-pasted it directly as the Galaxy S6 Edge’s. That’s because the two phones really do have nearly identical specs, with the S6 Edge carrying a slightly bigger battery that’s also non-removable.

Both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge carry the same set of main features, including the wireless charging and fast charging support. They are scheduled to become available starting on April 10th. We’ll update you on pricing as soon as we get the info.
