Apple announced the next generation of the HomePod mini 2 on October 13, 2026, adding Siri AI via a future software update, new colors, and a new light feature called Sound Glow. The speaker is priced at $149 in the U.S., and pre-orders are open in the U.S. and more than 23 other countries and regions, with availability in stores beginning Friday, October 30. Apple has not announced Philippine availability or pricing.

“HomePod mini 2 brings together Siri AI, gorgeous new colors, and incredible audio,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Home Product Marketing. “With Siri AI, it understands you better than ever, drawing on personal context and broad world knowledge to make music discovery even richer. It fills a room with sound on its own, which gets even bigger in a stereo pair or with multiroom audio, and when paired with the new Apple TV 4K, it delivers our most immersive home theater setup yet. And with just your voice, HomePod mini makes it easy to securely control your accessories and run automations across the connected home.”

Siri AI comes to the new speaker

Siri AI runs on a new architecture built on the latest generation of Apple Foundation Models and arrives through a future software update. Paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, the device can use personal context to help with tasks across apps, such as finding a song a friend recommended in a text, setting a reminder tied to a calendar event or location, pulling a recipe from an email, or adding ingredients to a grocery list. It recognizes up to six users in a household by voice and connects securely to their devices. Siri AI will be available in English on the speaker in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK. Apple says it will not be initially available in the EU in iOS or iPadOS, and that enabling it requires the home owner to have an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad with Siri AI turned on. Once Siri AI is enabled on a supported speaker, users without an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad still get its world knowledge, natural conversation, and improved music discovery.

Sound Glow and audio

Sound Glow turns the top of the HomePod mini 2 into a canvas that glows and pulses in sync with the music, reacting in real time to bass and treble. Album artwork from Now Playing generates a color-matched light for each song, and soundscapes such as rain trigger their own animations. Voice control for Sound Glow requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone.

The HomePod mini 2 uses the Apple S10 chip with computational audio to analyze music in real time and optimize dynamic range, loudness, and acoustic performance.

It delivers 360-degree sound on its own, in a stereo pair, or in a multiroom setup. For the first time, four HomePod mini 2 or HomePod (2nd generation) speakers in matching pairs can create a four-speaker surround sound setup with the Apple TV 4K (4th generation) running the latest software. The speakers and the TV recognize each speaker’s position and calibrate timing and levels to the room automatically. It can also serve as a Mac speaker on Mac computers with Wi-Fi 6E or later.

Smart home control by voice

The HomePod mini 2 works as a home hub, running smart home actions such as locking the front door, closing the garage, lowering the blinds, adjusting the thermostat, or turning off the lights. The Home app handles automations and scenes, and users can control accessories from an iPhone at home or away. Sound Recognition listens for smoke or carbon monoxide alarms and sends a notification to the user’s iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, though Apple notes it should not be relied on in high-risk or emergency situations. It also works with Apple Home Collection video doorbells and cameras, using Face Recognition to announce who is at the door. Face Recognition requires HomeKit Secure Video with the feature turned on, and Apple Home Collection arrives in December, with select accessories following in early 2027. Compatible accessories are sold separately.

Privacy and the environment

Apple says Siri requests can use on-device processing or Private Cloud Compute, and that data processed in Private Cloud Compute is not stored or made accessible to Apple or anyone else. According to Apple, the speaker uses 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets and 100 percent recycled copper, gold plating, and tin solder in all Apple-designed printed circuit boards, with 100 percent fiber-based paper packaging, as part of Apple’s plan to be carbon neutral across its entire footprint by 2030.

Price and availability

Pre-orders for HomePod mini 2 opened on October 13, 2026 at apple.com/store and in the Apple Store app in pink, green, blue, white, and midnight. It is priced at $149 in the U.S., with availability in stores beginning Friday, October 30. It is compatible with HomePod software 27.2.
