DJI Osmo Pocket 4P vs Insta360 Luna Ultra
After a few weeks of shooting with both the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P and the Insta360 Luna Ultra, I’ve reached a fairly blunt conclusion: if you care about dependable image quality and a more professional workflow, the Pocket 4P is the better buy. If you’re planning to pick one up locally, that decision gets even clearer once you factor in where (and how) you shop.
Imaging Winner: OSMO Pocket 4P
From a pure imaging standpoint, the Pocket 4P pulls ahead. In good light it already looks cleaner and more controlled, but the gap becomes obvious once you start shooting at night or in dim interiors. The 4P’s photo and video output holds onto more detail, controls noise better, and gives you footage that survives grading and social-ready exports without falling apart.
D‑Log 2 on the Pocket 4P is a big part of that story because it gives you room to actually treat the camera as part of a professional pipeline, not just a toy for quick clips.
Heat Management: OSMO Pocket 4P
Device heat behavior is another real-world pain point where the Luna Ultra falls short. In my continuous recording tests, the Luna Ultra stopped after around 30 minutes due to excessive heat, while the Pocket 4P kept going longer in the same conditions. In the Philippines, those extra minutes matter. If you’re covering events, walk-and-talk segments, or long vlogs, you don’t want to be thinking about thermal cut‑offs mid‑shoot.
Display and Control: Luna Ultra
Now, credit where it’s due: the Luna Ultra’s detachable display and controller with mic functionality is a genuinely clever idea. It makes the included FrameTap accessory on the Pocket 4P feel like a reactive answer rather than a bold move.
On paper, Luna’s design should give creators more flexibility in how they frame and control their shots. In practice, though, I found the system still too finicky and buggy. When you’re trying to capture a moment once, you don’t want to be debugging your controller or worrying whether the feature you’re relying on will behave as expected.
Price: OSMO Pocket 4P
Price doesn’t help Luna’s case either. The Insta360 Luna Ultra Creator Edition is noticeably more expensive than the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P Vlog Combo, with a gap of over PHP 15,000. You’re paying more for a less reliable experience and weaker low‑light performance, which is a hard sell if you also use your gear for paid work.
Overall, the Pocket 4P feels like the more holistic solution for both creators and professionals: better output, better recording endurance, stronger log options, and lower cost.

But with the current firmware and price, I have to be critical: the Insta360 Luna Ultra feels like a promising, feature-rich concept that still needs refinement, while the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P already behaves like a mature tool you can trust on a shoot. For now, if you’re in the market for a compact gimbal camera and you’re shopping at SM Cyberzone, the Pocket 4P is the one I’d tell most creators and professionals to short‑list first.
