Sony has officially launched the Sony LYT-901, a 200MP new imaging solution designed for future flagship devices.
Known internally during development as the Sony IMX09E, the LYT-901 is the brand’s first sensor to achieve this high resolution for mobile use. It features a 1/1.12-inch imaging surface and 0.7μm pixels.

The sensor employs a Quad-Quad Bayer mosaic and a dedicated hardware Remosaic path with integrated AI logic. This configuration is intended to reduce processing penalties and make handling dense pixel data more efficient for smartphone chipsets.

A key highlight is the sophisticated approach to high dynamic range (HDR). The LYT-901 combines Dual Conversion Gain HDR with a Hybrid Frame-HDR design that samples a very short extra frame. This method helps control highlight clipping and minimizes ghosting in fast-moving scenes, resulting in a combined dynamic range exceeding 100dB (roughly 17 photographic stops).
Zoom capabilities are also a core strength, supporting 2x hardware zoom and up to 4x sensor-in-zoom for both stills and video, allowing phones to tap into a high-quality virtual telephoto view without a separate optical lens. The sensor is optimized for challenging environments like concert halls, covering 4x hardware zoom while maintaining 4K video at 30fps.
Current industry rumors suggest the Sony LYT-901 may debut in upcoming Ultra-tier devices, with the Oppo Find X9 Ultra and the Vivo X300 Ultra being mentioned as potential early adopters in 2026.
