The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ has finally arrived in the Philippines, and it might just be one of the best handhelds being offered in the market this season. It runs Windows 11, carries Intel® Arc™ G3 Extreme Processor with 32GB of memory and a 1TB SSD in its higher configurations, and pairs that hardware with an 8-inch 120Hz display, an 80Wh battery, and a controller-first interface for people who want console behavior without giving up a desktop.

That last part is the real difference. A dedicated handheld console is only ever a console. This one boots into a gaming environment when you want to play, then hands you the full Windows desktop when you are done, with two Thunderbolt 4 ports on hand for monitors, docks and peripherals.

Key Highlights

  • Intel® Arc™ G3 Extreme Processor performance with Intel® XeSS 3, including Multi-Frame Generation in supported PC games.
  • 8-inch 120Hz display with VRR, a 1920 x 1200 16:10 panel rated at 500 nits and 100 percent sRGB.
  • 80Wh battery, rated for more than five hours of gameplay in Endurance Mode.
  • Xbox Mode, a controller-first interface that boots straight into games and switches back to the desktop on demand.
  • Windows PC versatility, with 32GB of memory, upgradeable storage and dual Thunderbolt 4.

What Makes the Intel® Arc™ G3 Extreme Processor Setup Stand Out?

Performance here is about sustained frame rates rather than a peak number. The Intel® Arc™ G3 Extreme processor works alongside integrated Intel® Arc™ Graphics and 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, which lets a handheld keep a demanding title running while Windows continues in the background.

The more interesting part for buyers is Intel® XeSS 3 and Multi-Frame Generation. Both are designed to raise frame rates in supported titles through AI-based upscaling and frame generation, which is how a handheld of this size approaches smooth gameplay at 1200p. MSI says its internal comparison showed more than 50 percent higher average FPS than the previous generation under 1200p Medium settings with Intel® XeSS 3, though real-world results will depend on the game, the drivers and the graphics settings you choose.

How Does the 8-inch 120Hz Display Enhance Handheld Gaming?

The panel is one of the first things you notice. At 8 inches with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 1920 x 1200 resolution, it gives Windows interfaces and game launchers more room than the smaller displays common on handhelds, and a taller field of view in titles that use one.

Refresh rate is where it changes how games feel. A 120Hz panel with variable refresh rate keeps motion smoother and reduces the tearing and stutter that appear when frame delivery and screen refresh fall out of step, which matters more on a handheld than on a desktop. The 500-nit rating and 100 percent sRGB coverage mean that holds up in a bright room.

Improved Ergonomics and Precision Controls

MSI reshaped the chassis around a controller-inspired grip, with flared palm rests and textured surfaces that keep wrists in a more natural position during long sessions. At 785g in Void Purple it remains a substantial device, so that redesign is doing real work.

The controls address durability as much as feel. Hall Effect analog sticks and triggers remove the physical contact mechanism used in conventional carbon-film parts, which is the wear that produces drift over time. MSI also fits a metal-dome D-pad, HD haptics, two front macro buttons and two programmable rear buttons.

Designed for Longer Gaming Sessions: Cooling and Battery Life

Battery capacity is the specification most likely to decide whether this suits you. The 80Wh cell is one of the larger batteries in its class, and MSI rates it for more than five hours of gameplay in Endurance Mode when running Diablo IV at 1200p and 30fps with Intel® XeSS 3 enabled. Actual runtime will vary considerably with performance mode, game workload, screen brightness and wireless use.

To hold that performance over a long session, MSI uses its Cooler Boost HyperFlow thermal design, which redirects airflow across internal components. MSI claims higher cooling capacity, fan static pressure and airflow than its previous design.

Beyond Gaming: Xbox Mode and Windows PC Versatility

Windows is still the operating system, but MSI is trying to remove the friction that usually comes with it. Xbox Mode boots into a controller-first interface, gathers games from Xbox, Game Pass, Steam, Battle.net and other PC storefronts into one place, and includes a task switcher for moving between the gaming environment and the desktop.

In practice that is what makes the double life workable. You can start a game with the controller, switch to the desktop to join a call or finish a document, and go back without rebooting. MSI says Xbox Mode also frees memory for games, and the redesigned Quick Settings panel occupies less of the screen during play. MSI App Player adds Android games.

The desktop half is genuinely equipped for work. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports support external monitors, Ethernet docks and cameras, and the 1TB SSD can be replaced through a removable rear cover. A microSD Express slot handles expansion, rated at roughly 600MB/s to 800MB/s. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 with LE Audio, a fingerprint-enabled power button and dual 2W speakers round out the connectivity.

Who Is the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ For?

This is a handheld for someone who wants one device to cover both halves of their computing day. It brings together gaming performance, a high-refresh display, battery life for longer sessions, Hall Effect controls that should not develop drift, and the flexibility of a full Windows PC. Buyers who only want to play games may find a dedicated console simpler and cheaper. Buyers who travel, dock to a monitor, or need Windows software alongside their library are who this design is aimed at.
