Apple has switched on hypertension notifications for Apple Watch users in the Philippines, a feature that watches for signs of chronic high blood pressure in the background instead of asking anyone to take a reading. The newsroom post is dated October 14, and the Philippines now appears in the hypertension notifications entry on Apple’s watchOS feature availability page.
The alert is not offered on every model, and not to every user. Apple lists it on Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10 and Series 11, and on Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Ultra 3, running the latest watchOS and paired with an iPhone 11 or newer. Users have to be 22 or older, not pregnant, and not already diagnosed with hypertension. Apple Watch SE is excluded, and the feature is switched on from the Health app’s Health Checklist rather than from the watch itself.
Which Apple Watch models get hypertension notifications in the Philippines
Apple has been rolling the alert out market by market since it arrived with the Apple Watch Series 11 in September 2025, and in each market it is gated on regulatory clearance, which is why the Philippines is arriving late rather than at launch.

How the watch flags possible high blood pressure
There is no blood pressure sensor in play. The watch reads its optical heart sensor and analyzes how blood vessels respond to the beats of the heart, running quietly in the background across 30-day windows. Apple says the algorithm was built with data from studies covering more than 100,000 participants, then validated in a clinical study of over 2,000 people. It never shows a reading, and Apple is clear that it will not catch every case of hypertension.
Hypertension is the leading modifiable risk factor for heart attack, stroke and kidney disease, and affects roughly 1.4 billion adults worldwide, which is the case Apple makes for the feature. When a notification does arrive, the Health app prompts seven days of blood pressure readings with a third-party cuff, morning and evening, plus a conversation with a doctor. Apple says that follows American Heart Association guidance, and its own support documentation notes the watch is not a diagnostic device.

Series 12 and Ultra 4 are left out for now
The part worth knowing before buying: Apple says hypertension notifications will not be initially available in the Philippines on Apple Watch Series 12 or Apple Watch Ultra 4, because additional regulatory clearances for those models are still in process. The company expects availability next year.

Both watches launched in September with a redesigned health sensing system, and the gap leaves buyers of the newest hardware without an alert that older watches deliver today. The feature availability page is the one to check, since Apple updates it per market and per model.
