OpenClaw 2.0
OpenClaw has released OpenClaw 2.0, which the project describes as by far the largest update in its history. The release comes after nearly seven weeks without a shipping update, a break the team says was needed because the work had outgrown both the foundation of the project and the process used to ship it.
A massive community effort
OpenClaw 2.0 was built by 933 contributors, including 569 first-time contributors, and is composed of over 16,000 pull requests. The project notes that the release contains roughly half of all pull requests ever merged into OpenClaw. The update touches every part of the platform, including installation, messaging, memory, skills, models, automations, the browser and native apps, plugins, security, and a long tail of fixes.
Faster setup and a rebuilt browser app
Installation was the first priority. First-time setup now starts with what is already on a user’s computer, including existing ChatGPT or Claude subscriptions, API keys, and local models. Much of the configuration was cut or simplified, and the rest was moved out of initial setup so new users can get to a first conversation faster and finish configuring their Claw by talking to it.
The browser app, where most people first meet OpenClaw, was rebuilt as a first-class experience. It opens directly into a conversation, and users can keep setting things up, return to ongoing work, or follow along live.
Multiplayer workspaces
New shared cloud sessions turn OpenClaw into a multiplayer experience. Previously, bringing another team member into ongoing work meant losing what the Claw already knew. Shared cloud sessions let teams share tasks, collaborate on them, and hand them off entirely with the context intact. The OpenClaw team says it now uses the feature to build OpenClaw itself.
OpenClaw remains open source, and the project says it is not selling anything or asking users to trust a single company, model, or AI provider. Full release notes are available at docs.openclaw.ai.
