The Samsung 990 SSD has officially made its debut as a storage drive for strong performance, improved power efficiency, and more room for demanding workloads. It will be offered in 1TB and 2TB capacities, with a global launch beginning July 15, 2026, and local availability in the Philippines to follow soon.
Samsung 990 SSD
The 990 SSD is a balanced solution for gaming, creative work, and everyday PC use. It’s designed for people who need faster storage for heavy workloads, immersive gaming, high-resolution content creation, and DIY PC builds, and aimed at users who want a practical upgrade without giving up speed or efficiency.
The 2TB model can reach sequential read speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s, while the 1TB model can go up to 7,150 MB/s. Both offer sequential write speeds of up to 6,450 MB/s. For random read/write performance, the 2TB model delivers up to 850K read and 1,200K write IOPS, while the 1TB version reaches up to 700K read and 1,100K write IOPS.
These numbers translate into faster file transfers, shorter loading times, quicker application launches, and smoother gameplay. The extra storage also helps users keep large files and modern AAA games on hand. The 2TB model can hold up to 30 large-scale games based on an average size of 64GB per title.
The new SSD uses PCIe 4.0 support and Samsung’s latest NAND technologies. It also comes with Samsung V-NAND, an in-house controller, and an M.2 2280 form factor. The drive supports AES 256-bit full disk encryption, TCG Opal V2.0, and Encrypted Drive IEEE1667 for data protection. Samsung Magician Software is also supported for data migration, drive health monitoring, and performance optimization.
Compared with the previous 990 PRO model, the 990 SSD offers improved power efficiency of up to 38%. This allows for strong performance while using less power.
