Sony has unveiled 1000X THE COLLEXION, a new premium addition to its 1000X headphone series, along with a new Sandstone colorway for the WH-1000XM6 as part of the lineup’s 10th anniversary celebrations. Design and comfort
1000X THE COLLEXION uses luxury materials and a meticulous finish, starting with a headband crafted from premium metal that combines a matte sandblasted texture and hand-polished gloss. The headphones use a specially developed soft faux leather—reportedly two years in development—alongside integrated metal buttons and microphone openings to maintain a clean, seamless aesthetic.
Available in White and Black colors, the model pairs minimalist colour choices with subtle metallic contrasts to deliver a sophisticated visual identity.
Ergonomics are central to THE COLLEXION, with generously proportioned earcups and a wider, cushioned headband designed to distribute weight and optimise contact pressure for extended listening sessions. The soft, stretchable leather aims to adapt to head shape to provide stable isolation while keeping comfort high for long periods of use.
Audio engineering and features
THE COLLEXION uses a bespoke driver unit featuring a soft edge as well as a high-rigidity dome made from unidirectional carbon composite material, engineered to produce clearer separation between instruments and vocals, higher-frequency detail, and a wider soundstage.
Sony has collaborated with GRAMMY award-winning and nominated mastering engineers to refine tuning, aiming for smooth vocals, balanced instruments, and nuanced dynamics that preserve artistic intent.
THE COLLEXION debuts DSEE Ultimate, an Edge-AI driven upscaling technology that restores detail and dynamic range to compressed digital music in real time and expands 360 Reality Audio Upmix into three distinct modes – Music, Cinema and Game, so users can tailor spatial processing to different content types. These modes are accessible via the Listening Mode button and can be customised through the Sony Sound Connect app, which also allows users to assign Upmix for Game or a BGM (background music) mode.
Noise cancelling and connectivity
Noise cancelling performance follows the 1000X lineage, employing the same core technology as the WH-1000XM6. THE COLLEXION is equipped with a Multi-Noise Sensor technology that uses 12 microphones alongside an Adaptive NC Optimizer to deliver environment-adaptive noise cancellation.
It also retains familiar conveniences from the 1000X family, including high-quality call performance, intuitive controls, and seamless connectivity, with battery life rated up to 24 hours when using noise cancelling and Bluetooth, and up to 32 hours with noise cancelling off.
WH-1000XM6 Sandstone update and availability
Alongside THE COLLEXION, Sony expands the WH-1000XM6 palette with a new Sandstone colorway that offers a natural, warm finish while preserving the same audio performance the series is known for. This is the fifth color in the WH-1000XM6 range.
