There have been reports circulating on the internet that Canon is working on a gimbal camera similar to the DJI Osmo Pocket. But before anything official, a 2026 patent for Canon’s version was spotted, and it revealed what it could look like.
Canon Gimbal Camera – New Patent
The new patent has a refined design that also uses an integrated 3-axis design. It also shows a familiar form factor, but with changes like the built-in screen looks to be fixed in landscape mode. Moreover, it reveals four buttons below the display – at the center is a joystick and two buttons flanking it. The right button is expected to be a dedicated recording button.

The patent shows that the camera can detect when a user is done using it and automatically uses a safe-folding sequence before cutting motor power. It does so through magnetic sensors and image analysis.

That said, though, it’s quite uncertain when we’ll actually see the gimbal camera from Canon make it to the commercial shelves. Patents don’t really give us a good timeline as to when actual production will take place. At most, it could already be testing things.

However, currently, DJI has been the dominant force in the gimbal camera market, having been at it for a while. Recently, it introduced the DJI Osmo Pocket 4. Insta360 also joined the market when its CEO revealed the Insta360 Luna. This, though, has yet to be officially launched, but a comprehensive leak shared the full details.
