Qualcomm signaled the start of a new era in wireless connectivity by debuting its first Wi-Fi 8-ready hardware and outlining a definitive roadmap for 6G networks during MWC 2026.
Qualcomm Unveils Wi-Fi 8 Chip
The FastConnect 8800 is an “AI-native” mobile connectivity system. Designed for the Wi-Fi 8 (802.11bn) standard, the chip uses a 4×4 radio configuration to deliver top speeds of 11.5 Gbps, doubling the performance of previous Wi-Fi 7 solutions. Additionally, the platform claims a 3x increase in gigabit range and a 30% reduction in power consumption.
The FastConnect 8800 also integrates Bluetooth 7.0 with “High Data Throughput” technology, tripling existing transfer limits to 7.5 Mbps for higher-fidelity audio and faster file sharing.

Moreover, Qualcomm announced a strategic partnership with Google, Meta, Microsoft, and others to standardize and deploy 6G by 2029. This next-generation network is being built as an “AI-native” system, prioritizing wide-area sensing and high-performance edge computing to support future “agentic” AI devices.
Qualcomm expects the first commercial products featuring these chips to hit the market in late 2026, laying the groundwork for the 6G transition at the end of the decade.
