Apple is reportedly doubling down on display durability for its upcoming foldable iPhone, opting for a sophisticated dual-layer glass structure to eliminate the notorious screen crease.

Apple Foldable iPhone to Feature Dual-Layer Glass Screen?

According to reports shared by tipster Digital Chat Station, the upcoming device will move beyond the single-sheet designs common in current foldables. Instead, Apple plans to utilize a composite structure featuring Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) and Ultra-Flexible Glass (UFG). By placing the display panel between these protective layers, the design aim is to distribute stress more evenly across the hinge area.

The “crease” has long been a challenge for the industry. While competitors have recently achieved “nearly negligible” creases, Apple is reportedly aiming for a “virtually invisible” finish. This multi-layered approach is expected to reduce pressure on the OLED panel during use.

Industry analysts suggest that this focus on pushing this feature is why the brand has delayed its entry into the foldable market. The “iPhone Fold” is rumored to launch in late 2026, potentially alongside the iPhone 18 series.
