If you’re using YouTube Music with a free account and enjoying singing along with the lyrics, it seems like your days could be numbered, with Google starting to test the limit of the lyrics feature for free users to a wider audience.

YouTube Music Lyrics – Limit

Free users of YouTube Music have started to see limits set to the song lyrics feature, which was initially tested back in September.

Users who spotted the limit saw that they were only able to view lyrics for five songs per month. After the fifth, the first few lines of the next songs were viewable, while the rest of the text was blurred out. However, screenshots shared show the “Unlock lyrics with Premium” text on top.

Spotify previously tested a similar feature, putting its lyrics behind a paywall back in 2024, but received backlash from its users, causing a rollback from the company.

As of writing this, the lyrics limit on YouTube Music hasn’t been officially rolled out and is still under the testing phase. It could be the platform’s way of getting more users to subscribe to the Premium service.

In the Philippines, YouTube Premium costs PHP 189 per month and includes YouTube Music Premium.
