YouTube has announced an update to its search filter menu, designed to enhance the user experience and address long-standing feedback. The redesign, which affects desktop and mobile platforms, introduces new features, rebrands, and removals to simplify how viewers navigate results.
YouTube Search Filter Streamlining
One addition to the interface is a dedicated “Shorts” filter located under the “Type” category. This feature allows users to toggle between short-form and long-form videos, which may indicate a shift towards vertical content.

Moreover, YouTube is also rebranding several familiar terms. The “Sort By” category has been renamed to “Prioritize,” while the “View count” filter is now labeled as “Popularity.” Additionally, the “Upload Date” column has been moved to the center of the menu for better visibility and accessibility.

Some legacy options are being retired. YouTube is removing the “Last hour” and “Rating” filters, citing that they were not working as expected and had contributed to frequent user complaints.
The platform stated that this reorganization is designed to make search refinement easier. While change can often be jarring for some, YouTube remains focused on modernizing its features to ensure viewers can find specific content with fewer clicks. The update is expected to roll out soon.
