OpenAI has officially launched “ChatGPT Go” globally, introducing a new USD 8-per-month subscription tier designed to bridge the gap between its free service and the premium USD 20 Plus plan. The rollout aims to make advanced AI more accessible to a broader audience by leveraging ad revenue streams.

ChatGPT Go offers users approximately ten times the usage limits of the free tier, including increased message capacity, file uploads, and image generation capabilities. The plan utilizes “GPT-5.2 Instant,” a faster and more efficient version of OpenAI’s latest model. Additionally, Go subscribers benefit from a longer context window and enhanced memory, allowing the AI to retain more detail across conversations.

Additionally, OpenAI has confirmed that it will begin testing sponsored content within the ChatGPT interface. Advertisements will appear at the bottom of responses and be clearly labeled as “Sponsored.” Currently, the trial is limited to the Free and Go tiers in the United States, while Plus, Pro, and Enterprise users will continue to enjoy an ad-free experience.

CEO Sam Altman stated that the move is essential to maintaining affordability as infrastructure costs rise. He likened the approach to Instagram’s advertising model, emphasizing that ads will not influence chatbot responses or compromise user privacy. Conversations will not be shared with advertisers, and ads will be restricted from appearing alongside sensitive topics such as health or politics.

With this global expansion, OpenAI now offers a three-tiered consumer ecosystem. By providing a mid-range option supported by ads, the company is betting that users will trade a small amount of screen real estate for significantly higher performance at a fraction of the premium cost.
