DJI has just unveiled the DJI RS 5 camera gimbal in China, the fifth-generation gimbal designed or professional cameras.

DJI RS 5

The DJI RS 5 boasts the company’s stabilization algorithm and and a new intelligent tracking system that operates from its touchscreen. The stabilization algorithm paired with the stronger motors and ergonomic improvements are said to offer faster balancing and smoother movement.

The tracking system features a compact magnetic add-on that snaps directly to the gimbal. It has a live camera feed that appears on the touchscreen of the DJI RS 5, rather than previously needing the phone app or an external monitor.

The system can recognize people, vehicles, and animals, and works at up to 10 meters.

Moreover, the new gimal has gesture controls built in, allowing users to start or stop tracking or trigger recording with hand movements.

The RS 5 also has fine-tuning adjustment knobs, using a leadscrew design with Teflon-enhanced layers. This is said to lead to smoother balancing.

The DJI RS 5 is said to offer around 14 hours of standby time as well as only requiring around an hour of charging. In comparison, the RS 4 Pro needed 1.5 hours to charge, while the RS 4 needed about 2.5 hours.

That said though, the RS 5 can only support up to 3kg, which is identical from its direct predecessor and half of the RS 4 Pro.
