Apple has officially announced the next-generation AirTag, introducing hardware upgrades designed to make tracking personal items more reliable than ever. Available starting today, the new AirTag retains its iconic compact design while delivering a 50% increase in Precision Finding range.

Apple Upgraded AirTag

The centerpiece of the update is a new second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. This advanced chip allows users to locate misplaced items from significantly greater distances, providing more accurate directional guidance through the Find My app. Complementing the range boost is an upgraded onboard speaker, which Apple says is louder than the original, making it easier to hear the device when it is buried deep in a couch or tucked inside a heavy bag.

The device continues to leverage the global Find My network, which comprises hundreds of millions of the company’s devices that can detect Bluetooth signals from a lost AirTag and report its location back to the owner, while maintaining end-to-end encryption and user privacy.

In line with the brand’s environmental goals, the new AirTag is designed with recycled materials and features a user-replaceable battery that lasts over a year. The new AirTag is priced at USD 29 for a single piece and USD 99 for a four-pack, with orders beginning this week on their website and in the Apple Store app.
