Months ahead of the launch of Android 17 – codenamed Cinnamon Bun, it seems like Google has plans to introduce translucent, blurry backgrounds to the UI.
Android 17 – Blurred Backgrounds
This was hinted at by the Material 3 Expressive iteration by bringing subtle blurs to the notification and Quick Settings panel. This was added to create a sense of depth and have a lighter feel to the UI rather than a fully opaque interface.

9to5Google spotted a frosted-glass, translucent look to the UI in internal builds. They mentioned that a big change includes the volume bar, which now slightly shows whatever is behind the window, whether that be wallpaper, apps, or whatever app you have open.
The color of these translucent bits is said to be based on your Dynamic Color theme, so it blends in with the rest of your UI smoothly.
Android 17 is expected to offer a much smaller redesign to its UI, compared to the overhaul of Android 16. The upcoming major version of Android will update some bits but will retain the overall aesthetic.
