Osmo Action 6 hosts loads of new upgrades!
The DJI Osmo Action 6 is not the upgrade I expected, because my experience with it is so much better! This is amazing especially for anyone serious about capturing daily adventures (however it may be), city life, or everyday fun. DJI has taken feedback from action camera enthusiasts and packed in features that make the newly announced Osmo Action 6 stand out. Here are the five best new features that make it a must-have for creators of all skill levels.
Industry’s First Variable Aperture (F2.0–F4.0)
Most action cameras are stuck with a fixed aperture, but not the Osmo Action 6. This model is the first in the industry to feature a variable aperture, letting users choose between F2.0 for low-light scenarios or F4.0 for crisp landscape shots. This means whether you are filming a night ride or a sunlit beach day, you have more control over the image’s brightness and depth of field. Pair it with the new macro lens, and you can capture shallow depth-of-field shots, making close-up subjects pop and backgrounds beautifully blurred.
In my experience, I brought this during my previous trip to Barcelona and this feature made it easier for me to choose between the two aperture choices that suits my needs. They even have choices of ND filters, to give you further control in the quality of your shots.
All-New 1.1-Inch Square Sensor
DJI introduced an all-new sensor that makes a dramatic difference in low-light performance. With the larger sensor size and 2.4μm fusion large pixels, the Action 6 can deliver up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range. Even in poorly lit conditions, details remain sharp and colors vibrant. The shape also enables flexible 4K shooting first and cropping for different aspect ratios later, which is fantastic for anyone targeting multiple social media platforms.
I have been using this custom 4K mode in all of my shots, which lets me easily fit my video in various aspect ratios. For example, if I want to edit a 16:9 video, my custom 4K shot can easily fit in my workspace. It isn’t going to be a problem should I later plan to use the same video on a 9:16 aspect ratio.
Osmo Ecosystem Upgrades
DJI’s ecosystem keeps getting better. The Osmo Action 6 connects natively to two DJI wireless microphones, so you do not need a receiver for dual-user interviews or vlogs. The action camera is actually the receiver for your microphones.
Also, the 10-bit D-Log M color system keeps your color grading consistent and preserves vital detail in highlights and shadows. For creators using other DJI devices, this means an easier time matching Osmo Action 6 footage with their drones and gimbals.
Creative Shooting Tools and Accessories
This camera revamps everyday shooting. As I mentioned earlier, the Action 6 introduces a new macro lens for close-up shots, a FOV Boost lens that automatically activates to deliver a super-wide 182° field of view, and gesture controls for hands-free recording. The Osmo Action 6 is also fully compatible with many earlier accessories, including extension rods, mounts, and batteries shared with the Nano and 360.
But I have to inform you though that the lens is bigger now so if you got covers and ND filters for the Action 5 Pro, you won’t be able to fit them in the new Action 6.
Built for Adventure
With 50GB of built-in storage, you can start recording right away and never worry about forgetting a memory card. The battery offers an impressive 4 hours of life at 1080p, and up to 200 minutes of 4K shooting. The body is rugged and waterproof up to 20 meters out of the box, which is ideal for wild outdoor shoots, pool days, or surfing trips. Gesture controls allow you to start and stop the camera even when it’s mounted in hard-to-reach places.
