Qualcomm has officially unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, the latest member of its premium 8 series but is designed to bring the experience with its Elite counterpart for devices with a lower price.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is the first non-Elite chipset from Qualcomm to use the company’s custom Oryon cores. The chip is built on a 3nm process and has 2 prime cores clocked at 3.8GHz and 6 performance cores at 3.32GHz.

When compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, this offers a 36% improvement in overall performance and 76% more responsive web browsing.
The new chipset integrates the Qualcomm Sensing Hub, which is designed to combine microphone and sensor inputs. This is said to allow you to activate your AI assistant by picking up the device and detecting your intent to speak.

Moreover, the Qualcomm AI Engine offers the use of agentic AI assistants capable of delivering personalized suggestions and context-aware interactions. This is powered by the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, said to deliver up to a 46% better performance.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is equipped with the Adreno 840 GPU with Frame Motion Engine 3.0, but minus the Adreno High-Performance Memory on the Elite Gen 5. The new GPU also features Snapdragon Game Super Resolution, Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.1, and Snapdragon Post Processing Accelerator. Moreover, it allows the chip to support up to a 4K+ panel with 120Hz or QHD+ at 240Hz.

Other features include the Spectra ISP and X80 5G Modem-RF System. The former allows the chipset to support up to 48MP triple camera or up to 108MP single camera with ZSL.
Qualcomm has confirmed that OnePlus will be the first to bring a device powered by the new chipset with the OnePlus Ace 6T or the OnePlus 15R. Meanwhile, other companies that will use the new chip include iQOO, Motorola, and vivo.
Ram found his love and appreciation for writing in 2015 having started in the gaming and esports sphere for GG Network. He would then transition to focus more on the world of tech which has also began his journey into learning more about this world. That said though, he still has the mentality of "as long as it works" for his personal gadgets.
