Apple is reportedly testing a new entry-level MacBook. According to a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new notebook, internally codenamed J700, is currently in an early production stage with a targeted launch in the first half of 2026.
Budget Apple MacBook Coming Soon?
This machine is expected to utilize an A-series iPhone processor, potentially the A18 Pro chip found in the iPhone 16 Pro, instead of the usual M-series silicon. This design choice is a key component in Apple’s strategy to keep costs down, with performance levels anticipated to be similar to the older M1 MacBook Air.

Moreover, the device is designed for casual users, students, and businesses who primarily rely on their computers for web browsing, document creation, and light multimedia tasks. To achieve a lower price point, the laptop will feature less-advanced components, including a lower-end LCD screen that is slightly smaller than the current 13.6-inch MacBook Air display.
The new model may sell for less than or around USD1,000. The exact name of the model and other information about it are still under wraps. We will definitely know more when it is officially announced.
