The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) are providing free rides to passengers experiencing issues with the cashless payment system’s pilot run.
DOTr Offers Free Rides
Launched on Monday, this initiative addresses complaints from riders who were charged the maximum fare of PHP 28 due to system malfunctions at exit turnstiles.

Affected passengers will now receive a non-expiring single journey ticket, equivalent to the maximum fare, which can be used for a future trip. To claim the ticket, passengers must present proof of the failed tap-out transaction at any ticket booth.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has asked for the public’s understanding and patience during the pilot phase, which began on July 25. He stated that more cashless turnstiles and system upgrades will be implemented throughout August to prevent future malfunctions.
Moreover, the new system accepts cards, the GCash Commuter QR code, and NFC-enabled Android smartphones.
