Sony Electronics has announced the release of the RX1R III, a new flagship full-frame premium compact camera. This third-generation model in the RX1R series boasts a 61-megapixel 35mm full-frame Exmor R CMOS image sensor and the latest BIONZ XR image processing engine, paired with a fixed ZEISS Sonnar T* 35mm F2 lens.

Designed for unparalleled image quality, the RX1R III delivers high resolution, sensitivity, and a wide dynamic range. Its sensor incorporates an AR coating and omits the optical low-pass filter for enhanced clarity.

The camera also features an advanced AI-processing unit for precise subject recognition and tracking, mirroring capabilities found in Sony’s high-end Alpha cameras, and offers up to 693 phase-detection AF points.
Despite its fixed lens, the RX1R III provides versatility with a Step Crop Shooting function, enabling users to simulate 50mm and 70mm focal lengths. A macro ring allows close-up shots as near as 20 cm.

Built from lightweight magnesium alloy, the camera includes a 2.36 million-dot XGA OLED electronic viewfinder. It uses the NP-FW50 battery, supporting up to 300 stills per charge, with USB Type-C for rapid charging.
In line with Sony’s ‘Road to Zero’ initiative, the RX1R III is produced in facilities using 100% renewable energy, and its packaging utilizes environmentally friendly Original Blended Material. The camera will be available in July 2025 for approximately USD 5,099.99.
