Smart is accelerating its nationwide 5G network deployment. The company is reallocating resources from its 3G infrastructure to enhance 5G capacity in high-demand areas.
Strategic Network Enhancement
The network modernization strategy focuses on strengthening 5G infrastructure to deliver faster and more reliable mobile connectivity. Resources are being gradually transitioned from legacy 3G networks to support 5G expansion across the Philippines.
“By focusing our efforts on strengthening our 5G footprint, we’re empowering more Filipinos with faster and more reliable mobile connectivity. We are committed to creating a world-class digital experience that meets our customers’ demands today and anticipates their needs of tomorrow.”
– PLDT and Smart Chief Technology Officer Menardo ‘Butch’ G. Jimenez Jr.
“Our continued investments in 5G align perfectly with the government’s push to boost the country’s digital competitiveness and drive inclusive nation-building. By providing access to cutting-edge technologies, we enable more Filipinos to fully participate in the digital economy and unlock new possibilities.”
– Smart Chief Operating Officer Anastacio ‘Boy’ R. Martirez
Advanced 5G Technology Rollout
Smart introduced its enhanced 5G service, branded as “5G Max,” in Taguig City in December 2024. This advanced network offering provides improved performance characteristics including faster data speeds, reduced latency, and enhanced mobile connectivity experiences. The company plans to extend 5G Max services to the Visayas region and other strategic locations throughout the country.
Customer Upgrade Initiatives
To maximize subscriber benefits from network improvements, Smart and TNT are actively promoting device and SIM card upgrades. The company has implemented several customer support measures to facilitate the transition to 5G-compatible services.
Subscribers can verify their SIM card’s 5G compatibility by sending a text message with “SIMCHECK” to 5832 at no charge. Customers with outdated SIM cards can obtain free upgrades by contacting the Smart customer service hotline at *888 or visiting authorized Smart Store locations.
Smart has also introduced accessible financing options for 5G-capable devices. These include installment plans for prepaid device bundles and postpaid service packages, available through Smart Store outlets nationwide and the company’s online retail platform.
