In its efforts to make life easier for commuters, cashless payments using e-wallets and debit/credit cards are now available at all MRT-3 stations.
MRT-3 Goes Cashless
DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon led the ceremony, even doing a demo using a GCash card to pay for his fare at the One Ayala station, highlighting that the system is the first in the world.
In addition, Free Wi-Fi is also now available at MRT-3 stations, allowing commuters to stay connected while waiting for their train ride. DICT Secretary Henry Aguda also mentioned that the agency is also working on having Wi-Fi inside the train cars.
Enabling cashless payments is certainly a good step forward, as it eliminates the need to fall in line to buy tickets, cutting the overall travel time.
While it remains a question as to how effective this system will be with a usual volume of passengers during rush hour, it’s still progress, and hopefully, the start of better days for commuters.
