The New NAIA Infra Corp (NNIC) has revealed that new facial recognition e-gates will be available in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in about 6 months. This comes after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., looked to make travel more convenient.

NAIA – Facial Recognition E-Gates

The president inspected NAIA Terminal 3 last Tuesday and wanted to reduce the queue in the gateway and improve services.

We’re trying to make life easier for them na mabilis nga, hindi na sila hinahanapan ng kung ano-anong ID,” the President told reporters during his inspection.

Ramon Ang, chairman of the NNIC, clarified that these new facial recognition e-gates will be available in 6 months.

I think in about 6 months we will be able to roll out the biometric and facial recognition and it’s at no cost to the Philippine government and no additional cost to the public, to the traveling passenger,” Ang told ABS-CBN News.

Although he mentioned that these will be upon the recommendation of the Department of Transportation (DOTr). Which as per Secretary Vince Dizon, has yet to be finalized.

Fina-fine tune pa namin ‘yung numbers basta the priority is NAIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 3,” he said.

Last month, President Marcos ordered the Department of Justice (DOJ) to increase the number of immigration e-gates in airports to better handle the departure and arrival of local and foreign travelers.

Among the countries that use a facial recognition e-gate system for local passport holders and ePassport holders to hasten the process include Australia, China, the European Union countries, Singapore, and Taiwan, to name a few.
