Riot Games’ mobile adaptation of its popular tactical shooter, Valorant, is officially in the works and will launch in China first. Esports Insider reports that pre-registration for a Valorant Mobile playtest is already open to Chinese players.

This move follows Riot’s initial announcement in 2021, after Valorant’s successful expansion from PC to Xbox and PlayStation consoles in August. Chinese studio LightSpeed is spearheading development.

While a global release timeline remains unconfirmed, the initial announcement indicates a phased rollout, starting in China. Esports Insider also notes prior playtesting within the country and highlights exclusive player card rewards for those who register for the upcoming test. The outlet has also been linked to unlisted trailer and gameplay footage.

Valorant Mobile joins a growing list of major shooter franchises, like Call of Duty, that have successfully transitioned to mobile platforms. LightSpeed has prior experience in this space, having developed mobile versions of PUBG and the now-shuttered Apex Legends Mobile.
