Magic: The Gathering‘s latest expansion, Aetherdrift, launched on February 14, 2025, introduces players to an exhilarating multiverse-spanning racing theme. The narrative centers around the Ghirapur Grand Prix, a death race across multiple planes including Avishkar, Amonkhet, and Muraganda.
The story follows Chandra’s quest to win the Aetherspark, an artificial Planeswalker Spark, to help Nissa who lost her own during the March of the Machine events.
Aetherdrift: New Mechanics
Aetherdrift introduces several innovative gameplay mechanics. The “Max Speed” system allows players to track their speed level, which increases when opponents lose life. The “Exhaust” mechanic provides one-time effects usable once per game. The set also features the return of Mount and Vehicle mechanics, perfectly fitting the racing theme.

The expansion offers several premium collecting opportunities:

Serialized Aetherspark cards (limited to 500 copies worldwide). Each card will display an X/500 denominator, only available in Collector Boosters.
