Earlier this year, AMD previewed its RX 9000 series graphics cards at CES 2025. It was a mere slide containing AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 alongside various brand board partner cards with the availability slated for Q1 2025. Today, AMD let out the floodgates as the brand has formally announced its new Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 9070 XT Graphics Cards.
AMD RDNA4 Architecture
According to AMD, 85% of gamers buy GPUs that are less than $700 as gamers now also play at 1440p and higher resolutions. This also includes the wider adoption of ray-traced games.
The new AMD RDNA 4 architecture aims to bring enthusiast-level gaming performance with a focus on Ray Tracing and Machine Learning for its latest GPUs.Compared to the RDNA 3, RNDA 4 has an enhanced memory subsystem, improved scaling units, and increased CU efficiency & clockspeeds.
AMD doubles down on Ray Tracing with the new RDNA 4 Architecture sporting 3rd Gen Ray Tracing Accelerators. AMD has managed to employ 2x Raytracing Throughput per Compute Unit. AI is also a key feature on RDNA4 with up to 8x faster performance over RDNA, including FP8 format support.
AMD Radeon RX 9070 Series
Last CES 2025, AMD introduced a new naming scheme for its upcoming Radeon GPUs for easier tiering and comparison against Nvidia. With the RX 9070 series, the Radeon RX 9070 competes with the RTX 5070, while the Radeon RX 9070 XT is up against the RTX 5070 Ti. AMD markets the Radeon RX 9070 series for 4k gaming at a price for 1440p. AMD’s slide also puts the RX 9070 series in between the RX 7900 XT/XTX and RX 7900 GRE GPUs – suggesting a price of around $699 for the RX 9070 XT.
AMD Radeon RX 9070
The AMD Radeon RX 9070 has 56 RDNA CUs, 56 RT Accelerators, and 112 AI Accelerators with 1165 peak AI TOPS. AMD compared the RX 9070 against the 6800 XT and RX 3080, claiming an average increase of 4K Max settings gaming performance by +38% and 26%, respectively. Against the RX 7900 GRE, the RX 9070 is ahead by 21% at 4k and 20$ at 1440p.
AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT has about 15% higher CUs, RT Accelerators, and AI Accelerators than the RX 9070. Despite a linear 15% increase in specs, the 9070 XT has a 25% higher Peak AI TOPS and consumes about 40% more power than the RX 9070. Both GPUs have 16GB GDDR6 256-bit memory.
AMD Radeon RX 9070 Series Pricing and Availability
The AMD Radeon RX 9070 is priced at $549 / Php 32,000(converted) while the RTX 5070 Ti competitor, RX 9070 XT has a retail price of $599 or Php 34,747. Retail availability will be on March 6, 2025 – one day after the RTX 5070 rumored retail availability.
