Instagram Head Adam Mosseri has just shared updates for the platform that benefit content creators. These are namely longer Reels and a new Edits app.
Instagram – Longer Reels and Edits App
Reels of up to 3 minutes can now be uploaded, this is coming from the previous 90-second limit. The longer format allows creators to be more creative with their content and offers more flexibility with the demand for a variety of video formats and lengths.
The new Edits app, on the other hand, looks to seize the opportunity created by the uncertainty in the United States about ByteDance which includes TikTok and the widely popular editing app, CapCut.

Edits is designed to make content creation easier by providing users with editing tools on their smartphones. It is said to offer a ‘full suite of creative tools’ including a dedicated tab for inspiration and early ideas, a higher-quality camera, and editing tools. Moreover, users will also be able to share drafts with friends and other creators.
Instagram will work with a handful of video creators to get their feedback to improve the app.
The Edits app is slotted to launch next month and is now available for pre-order via the Apple App Store. It will be available for Android devices soon.
