Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset, an upgrade to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 announced in November 2023 but also brings a Cortex-X4 prime core and on-device AI capabilities.

The latest chipset in the Snapdragon 7 series is the first in its family to feature device-generative AI capabilities. On-device AI features were previously only seen in the company’s flagship 8 series starting with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and now in the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.

The new Plus variant of the 7 series chipset supports a wide range of LLMs (Large Language Models) and LVMs (Large Visual Models) like Gemini Nano, Llama 2, and Zhipu ChatGLM.

The chipset should also offer better virtual assistants and more accessible entertainment via multi-language translation and transcription thanks to its AI capabilities.

The chipset supports up to 4K displays with a 60Hz refresh rate or QHD+ at 120Hz refresh rates. Moreover, it supports a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 240Hz.

As far as memory goes, smartphones can go as high as 24GB LPDDR5X as well as UFS 4.0 storage.

The new chipset also has a Snapdragon X63 5G modem with FastConnect 7800 and 3GPP Release 17 5G.
