Apple was recently forced to stop sales of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Watch Series 9 in the US due to a patent dispute with Masimo. However, it was reported that the company could disable the SpO2 monitoring feature on both watches to avoid a permanent ban.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Watch Series 9 SpO2 Functionality Ceased in the US

If the Cupertino-based company disabled the disputed SpO2 sensor, it could allow sales to continue. Because it is just disabled, the tech giant can just wait for the decision and just later re-enable the feature through a software update.

Reports claim that the company already started shipping these devices with the SpO2 functionality turned off and asked the retailers not to open or sell these watches.

It’s worth mentioning though that customers outside the US should not worry because they will not be affected by this final decision and can still enjoy the SpO2 monitoring on the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2. After all, it is only applicable in the US market.
