The company has the most patent applications filed globally and has had great success with its intellectual property strategy. Data from IFI CLAIMS Patent Services, a global provider of patent databases, shows that Huawei has steadily increased its number of patent applications over the last two years, moving up from ninth in 2020 to fourth in 2022. 

The manufacturer has increased its total number of patents by 2% to 2836, making it one of the biggest patent holders worldwide. It has spent more than RMB 845 billion on R&D over the last ten years. Almost 90% of the patents it has held—over 45,000 validly authorized patent families (over 110,000 pieces)—are invention patents, and the industry fully acknowledges the significance of its patent portfolio.
