According to a post circling Facebook and Twitter, the Department of Education (DepEd) seem to have purchased a very overpriced entry-level Canon EOS 1500D camera.

As seen in the image above, the said purchase amounts to PHP 155,929 last year (which is 4.5x the SRP). The camera, according to some official retail stores here in the Philippines, has a real price of PHP 31,278.16 with a listed SRP of PHP 33,998.

For those who are not familiar with the camera, the Canon EOS 1500D comes with an 18-55mm IS II kit lens.

It boasts a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 4+ image processor, 9-point AF with 1 centre cross-type AF point, Standard ISO 100 – 6400 (expandable to 12800), and WiFi/NFC support.

Aside from the Canon EOS 1500D, activist Renato Reyes also shared other images showing documents with other possible overpriced purchases of cameras in 2019.
