Samsung has just launched its ISOCELL HPX sensor, the company’s latest 200MP with 0.56-micron pixel size. The new sensor is the company’s third 200MP sensor, joining the ISOCELL HP1 and ISOCELL HP3.

The Samsung ISOCELL HPX is capable of reducing the area of the camera module by 20% for a thinner and smaller smartphone body thanks to its 0.56-micron pixel size.

The new sensor uses Samsung’s Advanced Deep Trench Isolation (DTI) technology, which isolates each pixel separately and boosts sensitivity for clearer and more vivid pictures. Additionally, it has a Super QPD (quad phase detection) autofocus solution for faster and more precise autofocus.

It can also automatically switch between three different lighting modes based on the available light. In a well-lit environment, pixel size is maintained at 0.56 microns to reach 200 million pixels. Meanwhile, in a low-light environment, the pixels are converted to 1.12 microns to yield 50 million pixels. In even lower light, 16 pixels are combined for a 2.24 micron to offer 12.5 million pixels.

Ultimately, this allows the ISOCELL HPX to produce sharp images even in dimmer-lit settings.

The sensor can also record video at up to 8K at 30fps and also supports seamless dual HDR shooting in 4K and FHD. The sensor is also able to render images at over 4 trillion colors or 14-bit color depth.

The company mentions that through staggered HDR, the sensor captures shadows and bright lights in a scene at low, medium, and high exposures. It then combines the three photos to create the best possible HDR pictures and videos.
