AMD revealed its new Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-series processors targeted to professionals. The lineup is headlined by the 64-core, 128-thread AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5995WX.

The new processors bring with them the Zen 3 core architecture and increased processor frequencies. Furthermore, this comes along with the launch of the new Lenovo workstations that will feature these processors – Lenovo ThinkStation P620.

“For many workstation users, success is dependent on having the right tools to complete jobs quickly, which is why they need hardware that provides unmatched performance and gives them a competitive edge. We created the Ryzen Threadripper PRO Ryzen 5000 WX-Series processors with this in mind, bringing professionals the incredible performance and efficiency needed to run today’s most demanding workstation applications faster than ever before.”

AMD Ryzen PRO Processors

The new 5000 WX-series of processors are built on the success of its predecessor. It combines the power of the Zen 3 architecture with the enterprise security features, manageability, and scalability of AMD PRO technologies.

Additionally, with higher frequencies and an enhanced L3 cache architecture, the new processors ensure that you can handle light workloads while also being able to bring multithreading performance when needed.

Performance

The 5000 WX-series delivers up to double the performance of its single-socket competitors. It also has a 95% higher performance than workstations that uses two competing server processors.

In addition, the processors support industry-leading 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes that enable more graphics and storage expandability. The chips enable up to 43% higher graphics performance and up to 2.2x the storage performance than its competitors.

Efficiency

In terms of performance-to-core ratio, the new Threadrippers consume 67% lower power per core which is double what its competitors are capable of.

Furthermore, these processors have the ability to render in 8K, develop complex simulations and designs and rapidly develop and compile code to give you the ability to do more in less time.

Built for Pros

The Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-series of processors have additional features that help create solutions for the most demanding professionally managed IT environments.

These features are:

  • AMD Memory Guard – Encrypts memory to prevent physical attacks on sensitive data
  • AMD Secure Processor – Integrated, on-chip security processor to protect sensitive data and validate code before it is executed
  • AMD Shadow Stack– Innovative set of hardware protections built into the processor to help mitigate common types of malware attacks by preventing memory modification for instructions
