Sony Celebrates Seven Wins at 2021 EISA Awards

Sony proudly announces that its commitment to quality and innovation has been recognized at the Expert Imaging and Sound Association Awards. The company took home seven awards including ‘Camera of the Year’ for Alpha 1, ‘Multimedia Smartphone’ for Xperia 1 III, and ‘Home Theatre Projector’ for VPL-VW590ES.

EISA Camera of the Year: Alpha 1

The Alpha 1 features a 50.1 MP full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor and a BIONZ XR processor. This allows for up to 30fps continuous shooting.

The dual-driven shutter allows flash sync up to 1/400 sec and electronic shutter flash sync at up to 1/200 sec. It is designed to be a versatile camera and offers up to 8K 30p 10-bit 4:2:0 movie recording.

EISA Photo/Video Camera: Alpha 7S III

The Alpha 7S III boasts a 12.1MP back-illuminated full-frame Exmor R CMOS image sensor. It can record up to one hour 4K/60p mode while in slow mode. Additionally, it is also capable of recording 4K/120 and FullHD/240p.

The camera records 10-bit footage with 4:2:2 color subsampling. It can also output 16-bit RAW data to a compatible over HDMI.

EISA Standard Lens: FE 50mm F1.2 GM

The FE 50mm F1.2 GM lens combines impressive image quality and a bright F/1.2 aperture with a compact and lightweight design.

It has an 11-blade circular diaphragm and XA (extreme aspherical) lens elements that provide pleasing bokeh. Moreover, the four XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors deliver fast and precise autofocus and tracking.

The lens has an aperture ring that can be switched between clicked and clickless operations.

EISA Wideangle Lens: FE 14mm F1.8 GM

The FE 14mm F1.8 GM combines Sony’s latest optical design and manufacturing techniques. Its compact size and weight don’t compromise the high image quality or reliability needed for challenging conditions.

It features a 9-blade aperture and XA lens elements that contribute to attractive bokeh. Meanwhile, the XD Linear provides fast and accurate autofocus.

EISA Wideangle Zoom Lens (full-frame): FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM

Sony’s large-aperture ultra-wide angle zoom lens is impressive from edge to edge, even at maximum aperture. This is thanks to the largest XA lens element produced so far.

The FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM is also compact despite a 122° angle of view with a maximum aperture of F/2.8. The lens includes a water and oil-repellent fluorine coating on the front element.

EISA Multimedia Smartphone: Xperia 1 III

The Sony Xperia 1 III is co-developed with the engineers behind Alpha series cameras. It includes fast and accurate continuous autofocus across all lenses and Real-time Eye AF. The device features the world’s first Variable telephoto lens coupled with a Dual-PD sensor and 4K HDR OLED 120Hz refresh rate panel.

It also features Real-time Tracking that allows you to shoot the mos challenging moving subjects in precise focus. The feature uses AI-based algorithms and the 3D iToF sensor to measure distance.

The Variable telephoto lens is paired with a Dual PD sensor that reaches up to a 105mm focal length. This allows you to switch between 70mm and 105mm. The device also reaches focal lengths of 16mm and 24mm.

In addition to its camera, it also has full stage stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 360 Reality Audio, and improved Game Enhancer features.

EISA Home Theatre Projector: VPL-VW590ES

The VPL-VW590ES is a 1,800lm native 4K lamp projector. It offers a clear HDR experience by implementing the picture processor ‘X1 for projector’. The processor is based on technology used for Sony’s TVs optimized for projection image characteristics.

Dynamic range is extended through deepening black levels by light source dimming while boosting highlights on a frame-by-frame basis.
