realme Watch S Pro review

Launched with the new realme Smart TV 32-inches and 43-inches, the realme Watch S Pro completes the company’s line-up of TechLife products for the 1st quarter of 2021. The realme Watch S Pro brings a more premium package and features that are missing on the realme Watch S. Let’s break everything down, and give you my thoughts why I think that this is a must-have for those who are looking for a new smartwatch.

What’s in the box?

Similar to the realme Watch S, the realme Watch S Pro is inside this rectangle box. The experience is pretty straightforward. Apart from the watch, the box also includes a charger and a couple of documentations. For a premium smartwatch, I initially expected more inside like an extra band or a screen protector. However, I may already be asking too much from a smartwatch that costs PhP8,990.

What’s “Pro” with the realme S Pro?

The “Pro” in realme S Pro is more than just a term. Innate to this new smartwatch are features that are absent even in other premium devices in the market right now. It’s interesting how realme is approaching this in a matter that puts them at the center of other brands that are offering similar product line.

Each brand has been offering their smartwatch line in various positioning – Xiaomi Amazfit for ruggedness and flexibility; Huawei for its premium-ness, Samsung for being feature-loaded, etcetera. realme tried to pick a portion of each strengths from products of other brands, which eventually brought forth realme Watch S Pro.

The watch powered by dual core processor. It also features dual-satellite GPS sensors to give users accurate workout and location insights.

The realme Watch S Pro is made of stainless steel with 3.5cm AMOLED touchscreen display. If you’re asking for a ‘premium build’, you’re definitely getting it on this phone. The quality of its display is impressive too – colors pop, contrast is perfect and the sharpness is topnotch. This is what you get for getting an AMOLED display.

If you’re down for specifics, realme Watch S Pro’s display has a 454×454 resolution with 326ppi. Combine this with 450 nits of brightness and 100,000:1 contrast value and you’ll get a display with high level of sharpness compared to other smartwatches I’ve used in the past.

Its wristband is made of neoprene rubber. If you’re allergic to this kind of material – like I do – you should be able to easily replace it with other 22mm wristbands that you can buy online. It’s surprising to see the number of available straps I found in Shopee.

Beyond the strap

realme Watch S Pro is more than just a watch with a rubber strap. Apart from telling the time, it comes with additional features that makes it both smart and functional.

For starters, you’re getting quite a number of watch faces and sports modes to help you get fit. realme Link is the tool that empowers realme Watch S Pro. While it has more than 100+ watch faces at launch, the possibility for this library to grow is highly possible. The available 15 sports modes are quite diverse. From outdoor run to free workout, this watch definitely got you covered.

Meanwhile, if you wish to know the available sports mode on this smartwatch, you can check out the list I prepared below.

  • Outdoor Run
  • Indoor Run
  • Outdoor Walk
  • Indoor Walk
  • Outdoor Cycling
  • Spinning/Indoor Cycling
  • Hiking
  • Swimming
  • Basketball
  • Yoga
  • Rowing
  • Elliptical
  • Cricket
  • Strength Training
  • Free workout

Apart from the sports modes, there are also additional features that you can enjoy like the ability to music and camera control, alarm, sleep monitoring and Find My Phone. Remote control feature is a hit and miss probably because of software compatibility. Insights you can gather from Sleep Monitoring include deep and light sleep, REM and even awake time. Some features worked flawlessly on the realme X50 Pro 5G but some were dodgy on my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Magical battery life

realme watch s Pro 3.10.1

I received my review unit last February 23 and have been using it since then. Battery was 98% when I turned it on, and it’s 65% at the time of writing this review. At this rate, based on battery drop off rate of 4.125% per day and circumstances listed below, this smartwatch’s battery will likely last for the next 16 more days.

  • zero workout
  • zero notifications
  • 24-hour HR monitor set at 5 mins
  • Automatic brightness level

This, however, doesn’t mean that it’ll be the case all the time. Obviously, your mileage may vary; and you need to consider how often you’ll use certain sports modes and how often you’ll check your heart rate or V02.

Verdict

Given the feature and my experience of the realme Smartwatch S Pro, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to my friends and family. It’s premium without the exorbitant price; and the features you get are more than enough to warrant its positioning as the watch the offers the best of everything.
