Roland Quandt of Winfuture.de has reported that Qualcomm is working on a less-powerful version of the Snapdragon 888. The new chipset, which we’ll call the Snapdragon 888 Lite from here on out, has the model number SM8325 and doesn’t have an integrated 5G modem. For comparison, the current Snapdragon 888 has the model number SM8350.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 was launched as the first 800 series processor with an integrated 5G modem. Its predecessors like the Snapdragon 855, 855+, 865, and 865+ had a 5G modem but it was separate. The omission comes as a surprise especially since the company has switched to having it.

This could be a move from the company to target markets where 5G is not yet available or widespread. It also allows phone makers to offer more affordable 4G-only flagship devices.

Qualcomm is expected to launch a couple of chipsets like the Snapdragon 775 and 755G. There could be a chance that the Snapdragon 888 Lite may be unveiled alongside the new chipsets. However, there is no official news on the non-5G Snapdragon 888 and when it will debut.
