Sony posted a teaser video for the upcoming IMX686 image sensor on Weibo. The new sensor is the successor to the IMX586 – one of the first and popular 48MP sensors. The resolution on the new sensor wasn’t revealed but it is expected to be 60-64MP.
The teaser video of the Sony IMX686 features still photos taken with the new sensor but the full resolution shots weren’t published. The company used the IMX686 on a prototype board connected to a computer to take the photos in the video. The phone in the teaser video was just a mock-up phone.
