Press Release

MANILA, April 30, 2014 – Global technology leader LG Electronics is set to amplify the Filipinos’ viewing experience yet again with its game-changing Ultra HD TV lineup for 2014.

A trailblazer in the home entertainment category, LG holds the triple crown in “world’s first” TV technology—the LG 84-inch Ultra HD TV, the LG 55-inch OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) TV, and the 60-inch Curved OLED TV, an innovation which heralds a new paradigm of bringing immersive IMAX experience in the comfort of the viewer’s home.

This year, the consumer electronics giant is setting new standards for all-around excellence with its stellar collection which includes both premium and affordable models in screen sizes from 49 to 105 inches, all promising to deliver the ultimate TV experience with LG’s most advanced resolution.

“Each LG Ultra HD TV offers exceptional picture quality with images so rich in detail and color they could easily be mistaken for the real thing,” said LG Philippines vice president for Home Entertainment division Hoony Bae.

Advanced resolution

The LG Ultra HD TVs boast of a sophisticated upscaling technology that converts SD (Standard Definition), HD (High Definition) or Full HD content into crisp, near Ultra HD quality.

With the enhanced Super Resolution Algorithm, LG’s True 4K Engine Pro virtually eliminates almost all visual errors, ensuring a truly enjoyable viewing experience. The True 4K Engine Pro also supports 4K Motion Estimation Motion Compensation (MEMC) which guarantees the most flawless 4K Ultra HD images and minimal motion blur.

“With 4K HEVC 60p decoders already built-in, LG’s Ultra HD TVs are future-proof. The powerful hardware is able to decode broadcast signals in H.264 and HEVC H.265 in either 30p or 60p,” Bae said. “What’s more, LG’s impressive TVs can display Ultra HD content from nearly any input source, including HDMI 2.0, USB and LAN.”

Return of 3D

LG’s 2014 lineup of Ultra HD TV is also set to give a new lease of life to 3D, creating a more immersive 3D viewing home entertainment experience.

With four times the pixel density of full HD TVs, LG’s 4K or Ultra HD TVs provide an unmatched level of visual precision. It boasts of having more pixels and vivid details, resulting to more realism both in 2D and 3D.

The latest LG Ultra HD TVs offer 4K 3D+, giving consumers a whole new experience with the most captivating 3D image quality available. LG’s 4K 3D uses Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology to render convincing 3D images with virtually no flicker or crosstalk. The large, high resolution displays of LG’s ULTRA HD TVs provide an exceptionally comfortable, flicker-free 3D viewing experience.

The 2014 models are also equipped with a highly effective 3D conversion engine for those times when 2D just isn’t enough.

“LG ULTRA HD TVs employ 3840 x 2160 resolution In-Plane Switching (IPS) 4K Displays that reproduce exceptionally accurate and vivid colors,” said Bae. “Thanks to an impressively wide viewing angle, the company’s IPS 4K Displays ensure a consistently excellent picture from nearly any vantage point. The inherent advantages of IPS stand out even more clearly on the expansive screens of LG’s magnificent Ultra HD TV lineup.”

Some of the new premium Ultra HD TV models boast the deep, rich audio of the Ultra Surround sound system developed in collaboration with high-end audio products maker, Harman Kardon. A forward-facing, multi-channel speaker configuration that reproduces sound with astounding clarity and precision, Ultra Surround significantly increases the viewer’s sense of immersion.

Smarter viewing experience

An integral part of LG’s Smart+ TV, the simple and intuitive webOS Smart TV platform will be featured in most LG Ultra HD TVs this year. Its ease of use makes searching and viewing content, connecting with other devices and the initial TV setup process incredibly smooth and seamless, bringing back the simplicity of controlling your TV.

Introduced during the recently concluded consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, Nevada, LG’s webOS platform has garnered a number of positive feedbacks. The unique architecture of the webOS enhances the compatibility between LG’s advanced TVs and other devices and also makes it easier for developers to create applications.

Several models from the 2014 LG Ultra HD TV lineup, including the UB9800, UB9500, UB9300 and UB8500, will already be in the Philippine market this month of May. More exciting products are slated for arrival in the second half of 2014.

“LG unveiled the world’s first 84-inch Ultra HD TV in 2012, laying the foundation for the Ultra HD TV era,” Bae shared. “This year, LG is continuing the legacy. We’re letting our consumers go beyond their usual TV experience, with the immersive Ultra HD quality available in different sizes.”
