I happened to see and quickly use an engineering unit of the soon-to-be launched Cherry Mobile Razor 2.0 this morning at the new office of Cherry Mobile. The new device is regarded as their thinnest device – 7mm. It’s hardware features may not be too impressive for some, but I was blown away by its affordability.

Priced only at PhP6,499 (the same price when the 1st Razor was announced), the 2nd iteration of last year’s Razor is packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (8226) – the same SoC you will find in the recently announced Lumia 630 and Moto G Dual. The new Razor has a slightly bigger qHD screen protected with Dragontrail technology compared to its predecessor. Razor 2 has 4.7″ screen, while the 1st Razor has a 4.5″ screen.

Check out my very quick hands-on below for your reference:

The device’s minimalist capacitive buttons are located below its screen. Its volume rockers are on its left side, while the sleep/wake button is on its right side.

Its bezels are not too narrow, which is – at least for me – a good thing to easily use the phone without resorting to accidentally pressing screen with your palm.

The device operates very smoothly when I used it this morning. The UI was very fluid and the screen is also very responsive. At one point, I felt and thought that I was using the new iteration of Flare HD (at a thinner and lighter build).

Unlike the 1st Razor, the new Razor 2.0 has a removable 1,750mAh battery and can take 2 microSIMs. As for network, SIM 1 is HSDPA compatible, while SIM 2 can only take you to 2G speeds. Take a look at the closer look of the phone’s SIMs and MicroSD trays.

Its Antutu score reached 16012, which I find impressive for a phone with such price and feature. Still, things might be different with the retail version of this phone. So, don’t forget to check back this page and remember its Antutu score. I wanted to install NBA 2K14 or Real Racing 3 but I had to ditch the idea because I needed to go back to the office.

I cannot wait to try this device for a longer period. The Razor phenomenon, which some of us had last year, will live on with this device new Razor.  What do you think, guys? Are you excited about this device? Do you think that it’s time to upgrade your phone with this one?

For the not too techies, how do you find its slim design feature? Do you see any practical reasons for choosing Razor 2 over other devices at similar price?
