Apple really never fails to amaze me each time they announce or launch a new product, especially when Steve Jobs is the one presenting. There is no doubt that Apple and Steve Jobs make the best lethal combination of telling everyone, “Hey, we’ve got something new!”. However, with their recent product launch this morning (in the US), they may have amazed me with HOW they launched their latest creation but have they amazed me with WHAT they launched? Let me share you my thoughts.
Today is history indeed when Steve Jobs announced the Apple iPad. Yes, they creatively thought of that and it made me remember something during my Elementary days – “Okay kids, please bring out your pad papers and your pencils… we’re going to have a quiz!” Not! Who would have thought that Apple will name their gadget iPad. Everybody was talking about iTablet or iSlate but lo and behold, Apple just nailed all these rumored names with iPad. Terrific… awesome… just like the way Steve Jobs described it.
The iPad technically married the the awesomeness of the iPhone and portability of the Macbook Air. It is super-thin, very responsive and efficient with its custom Apple 1Gz A4 Chip and full capacitive multi-touch screens and gorgeous with is iPhone 3.2 operating system.
It is not about carrying your music, files, pictures and movies IN your pocket though – because iPad will never fit in it (unless you are Godzilla or a Kapre) – but it is about “readability” and convenience in viewing your media files. As an iPhone user for two and half years, I may have experienced the convenience of carrying my files IN my pocket but reading and conveniently viewing them were pain in the arse. The iPhone was not built for that but my point is that Apple has finally answered the others’ clamor for convenience in watching hiqh quality movies, reading big and readable characters, and browsing the net like the way people want to through a single device!
Apps and games available in AppStore are readily available for this device. That’s another good reason for buying this product! Think about this – you will be able to play Plants vs Zombies using your finger! There was also an announcement that iWorks will be available for the iPad sometime in the future. More developers are encouraged to create applications for the iPad with the recent release of Apple Iphone OS 3.2 SDK. So, if you’re a developer… bring on the Apps!
Still, I hoped to see several features that can make iPad the real game-changer like multi-tasking and support for Flash media but I got disappointed in the end. Without multi-tasking, it means that you can’t open several applications in the background (except for Itunes). Without support for Flash media, you can’t play your favorite flash-based games in Facebook like Farmville! (Darn!)
Still, the iPad is a good device. I can’t say that it’s great because it really lacks the features I need and want for a Tablet. I would not trade my Nokia N900 for an iPad but I will definitely trade Kindle with this one. I’m convinced that Apple did a pretty good job in planning and making this new device though. Will this be a Kindle Killer? A big YES for me! This one is the total shiznit of Table PCs.
