We just received a news from our friends at PLDT that Smart Shared Data Plan bagged the Best Digital Leadership Award at the recently concluded CIO Asia Awards.
CIO Asia Awards is a prestigious annual listing of top Asian companies that have developed and rolled out information and communications technology innovations, which eventually brought success to the business. It has 5 categories – Innovation, Transformation, Leadership, Growth and Performance.
According to PLDT VP and Home Marketing Director, Gary Dujali, “The PLDT HOME DSL data sharing offer is just the beginning of more game-changing converged innovations from PLDT and Smart. This recognition from CIO Asia fuels our inspiration to raise the bar and continuously break new ground in digital and mobile technology.”

The Smart Shared Data Plan initiative enables subscribers of the PLDT HOME DSL service to share a portion of the monthly data allocation to multiple mobile phone lines. The shared data plans offer PLDT opportunities to bundle services and devices into a single value proposition, thus increasing revenue and reducing churn through stickiness as more lines and devices are added. This is particularly relevant in the Philippines where large, closely-linked family units are common. [CIO-ASIA.com]

The feature is offered under Speedster Fam Plan 1299, which basically grants its subscribers speeds up to 10Mbps, and a monthly data allocation of 50GB. It may be coupled with a Smart Mobile Plan 399 or Plan 600, which will then enable subscribers to share their data allocation up to 6 GB to mobile phone lines that they use outside the home.
This same technology was carried over to Smart’s infrastructure, which allowed users to “pasa” or “share” data allocations to their friends with a simple text/syntax trigger. Smart’s version was creatively presented with this emotional but witty video.
